Remember {here} when we went on our fall getaway with friends...

This precious pup is Vali's new best friend Gunner...

sweetest well-behaved cuddly puppy

Vali decided the water was not enough for her feisty self,

so she sprinted full speed through the forest...

maybe we should have Gunner train her a little more

Her dad was a little nicer to her than her mother was :)

The boys worked on lots of projects:

golf cart renovation, digging a firepit, finding dry firewood, grilling

We ate a LOT! The girls played with random recipes

the guys grilled wonderful dinners and Adam made his famous apple pie :)

On the side of the funfetti icing container there is a

yummy recipe for icing dipped apples

(just like candy coated apples)

We (the girls at the lake trip!) thought it would

be easier to cut up bite size apple pieces...

slide onto a skewer, and drizzle with icing and sprinkles

so tasty

This next one is nothing new just fun for Halloween:

Just make the jello as usual, but pour into fun glasses

for it to set... then top with whip cream for a little snack.

(I wish I had Halloween sprinkles!)

Patrick and I love making homemade waffles :)

This is the best waffle maker... so easy to clean!

Here is the recipe we used:

2 cups flour

2 tbsp sugar

1 tbsp baking powder

1/2 tsp salt

1 3/4 cup milk

6 tbsp vegetable oil

2 large eggs

1/2 cup pureed fruit (applesauce)

(makes 8- pour 1/2 cup for each waffle)

and then we added a few drops of food coloring for this festive treat:

Today in one of my classes, we discussed criticism and how to handle it, because anyone that leads (in any way) will be criticized at some point. My professor shared a wonderful devotion. It was a devotion someone shared with him during a hard time of his ministry. I found his words to be so inspiring. I wanted to write this down so when I go through a time when I am weary and tired, I will be reminded of this devotion, but also to encourage you blogfriends :) I know many of you answered "yes" to one of the questions above and I hope my professor's words will be an encouragement.

2 Corinthians 2:14

"But thanks be to God, who always leads us in triumphal procession in Christ and through us spreads everywhere the fragrance of the knowledge of him. "

Paul shares with us the amazing promise from Jesus. He will always lead us in triumph. Now for some of the tired and weary, this appears ridiculous. Lord, are you really being triumphant with this battle in my life? It sure doesn't feel like it's getting any better? How can you lead me to triumph?

Well, Paul continues on in his writing and shares that this confidence of triumph is only achieved through Christ Jesus.

2 Corinthians 3:4-5

"Such confidence as this is ours through Christ before God. Not that we are competent in ourselves to claim anything for ourselves, but our competence comes from God."

If we are doing ministry (or life in general) for our own competence we will fail. So many of us are drowning in our own misery because we tried to find competence through our talents, looks, charisma... but Paul makes it clear that we are only truly triumphant through God. We need to look outside for strength from Him.

It takes the power from God, not from our own self, to be a better minister. (wife, mother, friend, leader...)

2 Corinthians 4:7-9
"But we have this treasure in jars of clay to show that this all-surpassing power is from God and not us. We are hard pressed on every side, but not crushed; perplexed, but not in despair; persecuted, but not abandoned; struck down, but not destroyed."

For those of us who have accepted Jesus Christ as Lord of our lives, we have a treasure inside of us, the Holy Spirit. The job of the Holy Spirit is to be with us when we are perplexed, but keep us from despair. Those things will be thrown at you, but we must realize we can't go at it alone. If we find the treasure in us, we will not be abandoned, destroyed, crushed, or in despair. But how can we get this to happen?

2 Corinthians 4:10-12
"We always carry around in our body the death of Jesus, so that the life of Jesus may also be revealed in our body. For we who are alive are always being given over to death for Jesus' sake, so that his life may be revealed in our mortal body. So then, death is at work in us, but LIFE is at work in you."

Well how does that work? Carrying Jesus' death in me? What? It is the power of the Spirit, through the death of Christ and his salvation, that we won't be destroyed!
There are 2 ways to do ministry. You either life the ministry of death (sorrow, anger, burnt out, doubt) or life (excitement, passion, fulfillment, joy, peace) and the life of your ministry depends on your emotions. When you feel the death emotions keeping you up at night you are living the ministry of death.

In the diagram above, you see there are the two choices of life (ministry of death/life) On the left, Christ is still a part of your life and ministry, but your ego is on the throne (yes I drew a sad looking throne *). You try too hard to look pretty, act talented, etc. that Christ is no longer the focus. On the right, you still have your ego as a part of your life because unfortunately that is something we as humans will always battle, but instead of the other picture, Christ is on your throne. You have to choose who do you want on the throne of your life and ministry? If you choose life, Jesus can help you get through any circumstance even if now it seems like your darkest hour.

But how do you go from a deep despair/hardship to joy, just like that?! You may know you are in a dark time, but just can't get out of it! Well the way to shift over is simple, but will always start with getting your emotions on the right track. The power comes from God alone, like we read earlier in Corinthians. The answer is PRAYER. Pray to the one who holds the power, ask for the Holy Spirit to alter your outlook on life. The Lord is waiting and ready for you to experience life with Him, full of passion, joy and confidence. Simply tell Him, "I'm dying here! My ego is on the throne and I need to give it over to you. My ministry, my life is yours." It is amazing what prayer can do. Prayer connects you with the all powerful God that wants you to get out of despair from criticism and bring life into your weary heart.

I have been dying to braid my hair lately

but it is just a little too short and layered :(

I twist and tighten until its just right,

but then it falls out and looks crazy.

simplify

Lately, I have felt the need to simplify and straighten up our home. No longer do I want to clean the muddle that accumulates each week. Why can't it be put in its place when not in use, instead of thrown into a new spot every time? I have learned it is best when every item has a home (or at least a general area). There is a joy when I find a lost item in the mess, but there are some things I just don't want to keep misplacing. My keys are a great example. Every morning I go through the same routine of searching my abyss with handles, just to realize my keys had been thrown under the mail on the table or in the pocket of yesterday's coat :) Now, the problem is that while I may have the desire to put everything in its place, I don't have room for everything! I wish I could line boots on one shelf and heels on the other, neatly fold fabric in baskets, or hang hooks for all of my scarves... but we live in a 2 bedroom apartment. So I am giving away and throwing out (or ebaying*)

First on my list were our closets. I folded all the summer clothes in a Rubbermaid for storage and hung up all our winter wardrobe. If there was anything we had not worn last winter, we weren't going to wear it this season, so out it went (to Goodwill of course)! Our closets are now neat and tidy and we have actually been keeping them that way! It is so much easier to put clothes away when they have a spot just for them!

Next came the bathroom closet. I had so many bottles of lotions, hairsprays, etc. I couldn't tell if they were empty or new! After going through the old, I took out only what I used each day (one lotion, one hair serum, etc.) and put in one basket. Then all of the extras (they were still good and didn't want to waste them) were put in a big bucket on the bottom shelf. Now when I run out of something I will check the refill basket before purchasing anything. I have a good stash of shampoos and conditioners from this post {here} Just organizing the closet cleared up so much space! The towels are neatly stacked with a smaller bin for washcloths.

O how I'm loving this organization!

(There are some things I will keep that I'm not using right now simply because I know they will be used when we have a house. I am trying to fit all of these items in our storage area.)

Now I am working on the rest of our home... all the nooks and crannies...

I encourage you to simplify and organize before all the stress of the holidays.

It has helped me to be thankful for what we have and loosened our attachment to "things".

havana, cuba

This time last year, Patrick and I were packing our bags for a mission trip to Havana, Cuba.

We joined the Master's Men Choir from our home church.

(don't worry we did not sing with them*)

They have traveled to Cuba many times- each time singing in concerts

all over the city and serving at the Church in Havana.

We were so blessed to serve alongside of these men

and witness their incredible voices filling gorgeous cathedrals:

(I cried through every song... It was amazing to worship and hear the gospel

spread to the community through songs in their own language.)

At times, it did not feel like a mission trip because we were guests

at these concerts and able to sightsee throughout the week...

I miss these girls! They were so sweet and on fire for the Lord!!

They are in the National Cuban Choir and

are so bold in sharing Christ with the choir.

The few of us ladies on the trip served at a women's conference in the Church.

We painted nails, laughed at broken translations, and cried through powerful testimonies.

The ladies welcomed us into their homes, offered way to much coffee :)

and impacted my life in ways they will never know.

I do have to admit that my favorite moments were with the children...

blowing bubbles, trying to "Simon says" in Spanish :)

singing crazy songs and making crafts about the days of creation

My father-in-law is about to leave for a trip to Cuba.

We wish we could have gone so bad, but are trying to plan when we can go back.

Please be in prayer for their safety and that the Lord would

continue to work through the churches scattered throughout Cuba.

The temperature is perfect- what a bride dreams of for her wedding day.
& best of all:
My hubby slipped me a piece of crumbled paper during class this morning
asking me on a date... coffee at our special Starbucks location.

Not the Starbucks with the drive-thru where you zoom by before work.

Not the close by Starbucks you walk to with the furs because they
have doggie treats and know you all by name.

but the Starbucks that is a little drive away, nestled in a quaint little town
with the perfect bench for people watching, sipping a macchiato, and
falling more in love with my high school sweetheart.

You know something is wrong when I haven't posted in 4 days!
I have been sick and am feeling a little better today!
Yesterday, I didn't move from the couch ALL day
and my sweet furballs curled up on the floor
not leaving my side the entire day... so cute
I watched It's a Wonderful Life and the Notebook
my hubby served me warm chicken noodle soup
and soothing chamomile mint tea...
which rested on my lovely new coasters!!
They were in my mailbox yesterday morning
and definitely brightened my day!
The ruffle coasters are even cuter in person!

caramel cake

Patrick asked for a caramel cake or apple pie for his birthday dessert

and I stumbled upon this wonderful caramel cake recipe from

Smitten Kitchen {here} - the other recipes look delicious too!

To save time, I used a yellow cake mix instead of the homemade cake

Then poured the caramel glaze overtop after the cake had cooled...

Caramel Glaze:

1 cup heavy cream, 1/2 cup packed light brown sugar, 1 tbsp light corn syrup, and 1 tsp vanilla

Bring cream, sugar, corn syrup and a pinch of salt to a boil over medium heat

stirring until sugar is dissolved.

Continue boil until glaze reaches 210 degrees (about 12-14 mins)

(I didn't boil it hot enough and the glaze wasn't as thick as I wanted)

then add the vanilla

Pour hot glaze over the yellow cake, letting it drape over the sides

Cool for about 30 minutes to set the glaze.

It is so tasty, especially when warmed in the microwave a few seconds*

I'm going to make some more caramel glaze today

and pour it over honey crisp apples :) mmmmm...

Cuban Birthday

For a little adventure on Patrick's 22nd birthday,

he wanted to go off-roading by the Little Miami River:

It was really fun and the weather was beautiful!

The Jeep got really dirty- polka dotted with mud:

So while he washed the jeep, I started on the Cuban meal...

The dish was a Garcia family recipe called Picadillo:

*Brown 2 1/2 - 3 lbs of ground beef

While browning the meat...

*Saute in olive oil the following:

onions, 8 cloves garlic, 1 red bell pepper, 2 tsp oregano, 1/8 tsp cumin, 1-2 bay leaves

*Take 1/4 of the sauteed mixture above and

*Add to 2- 16 oz. cans of black beans (undrained)

* also add 1/4 cup of red cooking wine

*cover and simmer this until the rest of the meal is ready:

Add the following to the other 3/4 of the sauteed mixture:

*3 1/4 oz. of capers, green olives, and 3 oz. pimentos...

*In the meantime, start making the yellow rice...

I used 2 of the saffron yellow rice mixes below

and the instructions are the packages:

Now back to the sauteed mixture with olives and capers...

*Add 2- 14 oz. cans of tomatoes or tomato sauce

*Spoon Ground Beef into sauteed mixture

*Stir in 1/4 cup of red cooking wine

*Cover and Simmer 20-30 minutes

(This is great to make in the morning and put in a crock pot.

The longer it simmers, the better the flavor)

Sprinkle a little Parmesan cheese on top

and serve to the birthday boy with some toasted garlic bread :)

Then we ended the evening with a walk to Starbucks...

blessing from God

When I was little, my dad let me go with him to some of the weddings he performed.
I have so many vivid memories of those special times, tagging along with my dad.

(A sneak peek of the bride before the ceremony, dreaming of my wedding day,
the smell of fresh flowers floating down the aisle, tasty reception food just for kids,
getting to keep my dad's boutonniere after the wedding*)

Between noticing every detail of the bride's gown and writing
down wedding ideas on the program, I still listened quite
closely to my dad's words to the bride and groom.
Below is my favorite illustration that he used in many weddings
It is one I will never forget:

"Is there any sight more beautiful than seeing a young man and a young woman,

fall vacation

We have been on fall break at the lake house since Wednesday.
When it was chilly, there was a fire.
When the sun came out, there was a boat.
When the movie played, there was cuddling.
When friends joined together, there was laughter.
When stomachs growled, there was a grill.
And when the end arrived, there were memories.

Four years ago today, I found myself in a paddle boat with a boy that would one day become my boyfriend and my husband. Actually, the boat ride began with four people, but quickly our sneaky friends decided the boat was fit for just the two of us. We paddled around the little lake at Scioto Hills Camp, talking non-stop about our favorite vintage cars, my dream to be a fashion designer, love of traveling, and of course, Frank Sinatra. Patrick paddled to the opposite side of the lake, so I could not overhear the match-making friends plotting on the dock. I was calm and enjoyed talking and sharing with this new friend. The next session of the Leadership Retreat was about to begin, but we pushed the pedals as slow as we could trying to grasp every last second. A true gentleman from the beginning: respectfully listened in coversation, helped me out of the boat, held the door for me as we entered the main session. I joined the girls and tried to hide my enthusiasm and giddiness, but my friends were far too perceptive. We all hung out that evening, but one by one, they trickled away leaving Patrick and I alone again. (Thanks Hunter and Caroline*) The bonfire blazed in the distance and the stars shone far too bright up on the camp's hill. Talking as if we had been friends forever, we innocently shared our idea of a godly, healthy dating relationship and talked more about our life dreams. Patrick made me laugh with his crazy humor, but also touched me with his deep, sincere heart. There was something special about him. The retreat ended the next morning and we headed back to school. I learned about leadership and service on the retreat, but I also learned that there were guys out there that desired the same godly relationship that I did. I loved hanging out with Patrick and getting to know him, but I figured it was just a "retreat thing" and he would go back to his Senior Class upon arrival at school. As soon as I got home, I called my best friend to scream and giggle about talking with the "Patrick Garcia" and told her we HAD to meet for dinner before the CAL football game that evening. On her way to my house, with me on the other end of the phone, a big, red jeep pulled up behind her at the stop light. I jokingly told her to get the jeep to follow her to my house. So, the great friend that she is, she started waving frantically out the window to get Patrick and his friend to follow her down my street. They had no idea where they were following this wild Junior girl, but with nothing else to do, they decided to ride behind the white volvo all the way until they reached my house. Little did Patrick know, this would be the first of many times his big, red jeep would sit in my driveway.

A few weeks later, as I jumped up into Patrick's car after a football game, a certain song was playing in the background. I did not realize then, but he had set the song to start right when I got into the jeep. Sneaky sneaky... The song was Strangers in the Night- by Frank Sinatra.
It later became our "theme song" for the beginning of our relationship. My favorite part is: "something in your eyes was so exciting, something in your smile was so inviting, something in my heart told me I must have you..." Listen to Frank's song {here}

A little while ago, I told you I went on a road trip for a special birthday- remember {here}

It was my friend- Lindsey's birthday- woo hoo! Chelsea and I drove to Samford University to celebrate with her and all her friends in Birmingham!!! Lindsey's mom surprised all of us with many treats. Lindsey, Chelsea, and I were able to stay at Ross Bridge... the most beautiful hotel and little town- complete with Aveda products :) Here are a few pics from the adventure:

Last night Patrick preached at the CCU Family service. I love hearing my husband preach because I am always convicted and learn more about Christ. The following is an excerpt of his sermon:

"Tullian Tchividjian in the book, Unfashionable, tells of a time when he attended a Christian conference of about 5,000 people. He was listening to a panel discussion, when an editor of a conservative political-theological magazine was expressing his frustration with many of the liberal left-wingers and doing so in an unnecessarily and very condescending way. When he finished, John Piper (another speaker on the panel) turned to him, and with utmost precision and seriousness, he said, “For a long time I’ve appreciated your ministry. You are an astute observer of our culture. I read your magazine every month. It’s always insightful. But there’s one thing you’re missing from your ministry.”

The editor looked at Dr. Piper and asked what it was.

“Tears,” Piper replied.

And you know, I think far too often the culture we are trying to reach senses our anger, but do they ever sense our grief? It’s probable that they think we’re angry because we’re not getting our way, but I wonder if they feel our sorrow over sin’s negative, de-humanizing effects. Do they perceive a genuine care for their eternal destination, or do they believe we simply want our agenda promoted due to self-pride?

My confession tonight is that far too often I’m wrapped up into a moral code that must be followed by outsiders, rather than lost people coming to know Christ and God’s glory being revealed. I mean, should I really expect people who are without Christ to live as if they know Christ and are familiar with God’s Word? I’m not at all saying that we need to be doormats and stray away from making righteous, Biblical stands when truth is challenged in our culture... that’s not at all what I mean…because that is MUCH needed, but I am saying that such stances need to be taken out of a symmetrical balance of TRUTH and LOVE. John Stott said, “Truth without love is dogmatism, love without truth is sentimentality- speaking the truth in love- that’s Christianity."

On our way to school this morning, I spotted a beautiful wooden crate... just what I need! :) Well, at least that's what it looked like as we sped past at 50 mph. I yelled for Patrick to stop the car, but because he is a safe driver he continued on, reassuring me we could find a way to pick it up on our way home. It was resting on a ledge on the shoulder- I have no idea how it got there. Now that I'm thinking about it- I was quite tired this morning and we drove by so quickly, it could just be a rotten slab of wood or a cardboard box. We shall find out this afternoon. 2 years ago today
I found my wedding dress.

and yes... it was almost 2 months before we were engaged :)

Patrick and I had pretty much set a wedding date
I knew engagement was soon (well I thought Christmas time)
and...
My mom and I found a deal that we couldn't pass up!

My parents came to Cincinnati to visit at school.
Patrick and my dad played in a golf scramble
and my mom and I went shopping!
Little did we know we would be hiding a wedding dress
in the trunk so Patrick (and my dad haha) couldn't see...

On our way to Hobby Lobby, my mom and I
passed a tiny bridal shop - located in not the best part of town.
We ran in really quick just for fun and there was NOTHING.
ugly, tacky dresses and smelled musty, but the lady working was really sweet.
After a few glances around, we were ready to leave and as we walked out
the door, she told us that the clearance room was upstairs!
Now you know me and my mom, we can't pass up clearance!!!

I saw a pretty dress and moved it to the front of the rack,
continuing to browse the clearance section. My mom followed
behind and the same dress stood out to her, so I just had to try it on :)

Guess what the price tag said???!!!
$100 and 50% off!!!

I jumped into the dress and realized it was over 10 sizes too big,
but I loved the detailing, train, and vintage style...

The sweet lady said that she could easily alter the dress
and my mom said we might as well buy it for $50 and
if I find a better one, we'll just give it away or ebay it!

So that's how I found my wedding dress...
I tried on TONS more, but they were not the same.

When we met up with my dad and Patrick, we hid the dress in the car.
My mom told my dad as they were pulling away... and of course
he teared up. I tried to keep it a secret from Patrick, but starting
squealing with excitement before we even made it back to campus.

I write all this to let you know that you CAN save money,
even on your wedding dress. For me, it happened to be the first dress
I tried on, but you may have to search for awhile to find the perfect one.
If you do find a dress on clearance and need alterations, make
sure you are picky about your alterations and this is where
you can spend more money, because the fit of the dress makes a huge difference.

Coupons were always dangerous for me.

My idea of "couponing" was to search the ads
and magazines for wonderful coupons
for accessories and tasty food that I did NOT need,
but could justify buying... if I had a coupon :)
So I stopped clipping coupons because it was not
saving money on groceries or home supplies.

But recently I stumbled across several blogs
that teach the art of sales and coupons...
#1 fav is {money saving mom}

So... I have devised a plan to help me
save money while buying only necessary items.
I make my grocery shopping list and then,
only then, do I look at coupons, cutting out only
the ones that match what is already on my list.
Now occasionally I will cross off an item on my list
and add a new item if the sale is extremely good
but for the most part- I'm pretty proud of myself.

I have yet to learn the art of CVS shopping with
these things called Easy Care Bucks...
but I did get some good deals at Walgreens
using their Register Rewards Program:I bought 2 True North Snack Bags= $3 each
but got $3 back for each bag in Register Rewards
(this means $6 off my next purchase)
I wouldn't recommend doing this unless you
were already going to need to spend $6 at Walgreens.
I needed to buy shampoo/conditioner and pickup photos
So I went back through the line with an even greater deal!!Garnier Fructis Hair products were 3/$10 on sale
which is a great deal by itself, but I usually never buy
hair product that is more than $1.50
so then I found a Register Rewards deal that said
if you spend $20 on Garnier products then you get
$10 back in Register Rewards!!! So really it's 6/$10!
Cheaper and way nicer than what I am used to washing my hair with :)
I got 4 shampoos and 2 conditioners- each one had a little
bottle of sleek hair serum attached for a special promo!

For $10 I purchased:
4 shampoos, 2 conditioners, 6 hair serums, 2 bags of yummy snacks
(and I have a $10 credit for next visit!)

I say all that to encourage you to look into couponing
or to ask you for some hints on how you find sales
and work with coupons or store rewards...

fall festivals

Last weekend, Patrick and I stumbled across
a festival in a little town called Milford.
The town's old Main street is one of our favorite
places to go on a beautiful day, walking from shop to shop:
antique furniture, fly-fishing, log cabin decor, pottery
"Main Cup" coffee house, and vintage clothing!
"The Vintage Home" was my favorite shop...
so many nice things and very well organized!

The next shop made me sneeze with all the dust,
but it sure was packed full with vintage goodies!
Clothes everywhere, old lace and sewing patterns, vintage ties,
and look at all of these old children's books:

The roads were filled with treasures too!
I wanted this cute yellow lamp:
The one on the left corner of the table in the picture below.

I have decorated for fall-Patrick made me wait until after Labor Day :)
my home is filled with leaf decor and a pumpkin spice aroma...

I will post more pictures soon!

I store each season's decorations in Rubbermaid boxes

with labels on every side, so that when the season comes
I don't have to search through a chaotic basement storage closet.
Also, I rotate what boxes are at the front of the closet.
For example, when I pulled the fall box out, I moved the
Christmas box (actually, boxes!!) forward and put summer decor in its place.

Pillow Slipcover

Do you have an old pillow that needs some new life?

I had extra fabric leftover from a little curtain project
and an ugly pillow that I needed to hide :)
The fabric was an indoor/outdoor fabric from JoAnn Fabrics
(sorry I don't know the name)

Here are the steps:

Find pillow you want to cover or a pillow insert.
Measure the pillow or decide on the size insert pillow you want.
Add 1/4 inch seam allowance.
Cut out two squares/rectangles, MAKING SURE to leave
one square 3-4 inches longer (depending on the thickness of the pillow insert)
This is so that the back flaps can overlap and cover the pillow inside.
(Check out the picture above)
My 2nd piece of fabric was not long enough to cover the back pillow
It kinda pulled it apart and showed through
so you want to make it a little longer if your pillow is really fluffy.

Take the longer piece of fabric and cut 1/3 off of it.

Now line them all together so they are equal and the cut square overlaps.

The two pieces that are overlapping need to be sewn under
so they are finished when we turn the pillow inside out.

Sew the ends back...

Now lay the two pieces back together (right sides facing each other)
overlapping the two flaps that now has nicely sewn edges
Pin around the edges of the two pieces of fabric:

Take a little break and play with your puppy :)
(she continued to bring toys and sit them on my lap)

Sew around the edges... Flip inside out through the overlapping flaps...

Squish the pillow inside... and you're done!

sunday drive

Patrick and I are so weird.
We spend our Sunday afternoons (after church and a nap!)
driving around, windows down and country music turned up
looking at houses and landscaping in our neighborhood
and looking for new streets we haven't seen yet.
It is so relaxing and we love our special time
together without a care in the world!

Before the weather gets too chilly,
enjoy a nice refreshing smoothie!
Patrick and I have one almost everyday after school.
Ingredients:
1 cup frozen strawberries
1/2 cup frozen banana slices
1/2 plain or vanilla yogurt (I like vanilla)
1 cup cranberry/grape juice (or orange juice)

Pour liquid ingredients in blender first, then add the rest.
Blend until smooth, pour in a glass, and top with lots of whipped cream!
Drink and Enjoy!

(you could buy already frozen fruit, but I usually buy lots
of fresh fruit when Kroger has it on sale and its a lot cheaper!
Then I cut it all up and store in the freezer, so it's always ready to go!)

Last week on our way to school,
the piping hot coffee in the cup holder
tipped over into my seat creating

Okay, well here are some of the main points
of advice that I took from my Nana's notes:

Teach them the way of the Lord, continually reminding them of "who they are".
Proverbs 22:6- "Train a child in the way he should go,
and when he is old he will not turn from it."

Teach them respect for others and You. Teach them to obey.
Be honest. Set an example for them. Don't practice hypocrisy.
Our actions speak louder than words. Be consistent. Punish reasonably.
Remember that what works for one child won't work for another.
Ephesians 6:4- "Fathers, do not exasperate your children;
instead, bring them up in the training and instruction of the Lord."

Needs of a child in the home:
Love, trust, security, to feel that he is capable, sense of achievement & praise
Unity in the home.

I just left the Mariemont movie theatre
on a double date with some great friends!
Julie & Julia was so wonderful!
Even the guys liked it :)
I'm dying to put on a navy, long apron
bake a chocolate cake with a ring of almonds
buy copper pots and pans
and rush to the bookstore for her cookbook...

The Whole Gang!

This weekend we went to the Lake with all of the Garcias!!
It was so much fun having everyone there together!

The weather was gorgeous! We swam and relaxed on the boat,
made smores by the bonfire, sipped coffee, played games,
sat under the stars, built tents, and enjoyed dinners off the grill :)
